First Day Of P90X In The Books

P90X Chest and BackWell, the first day of P90X is in the books, and I got the shit kicked out of me. I realized today that just because you go to the gym often, you may not be in shape. I am not in as good of shape that I thought I was. I started to get tired just through the warm ups.

Today’s work out was chest and back. Lots of push ups and lots of pull ups. It was not just push ups and pull ups alternated, it was variations of the two exercises. I found the dive bomb push ups and the diamond push ups to be the most difficult.

I really liked this workout. It was the shock to my system I needed. The shock to my workout routine I needed. Tony Horton is a positive presence throughout the entire workout. He stresses form over reps. Quality over quantity. He stresses for the first timers, like me, to utilize the pause button to take a bit longer of a break, but reminds to you to come back and push play when you are ready. But most importantly, he stresses that it will take time and commitment to become proficient and that you will not be proficient on your first time.

Right now, I’m sore and the nausea is finally going away 45 minutes later, but I’m still excited about P90X and looking forward to Plyometrics tomorrow.

**UPDATED 7/19/2009**
I’ve started another round of P90X. Make sure to check out the latest updates on my P90X challenge here.

I’m staring my 2nd week of p90x. The chest and arms kept me sore for 3 – 4 days after the intial workout last week, and I had to split it up into to separate time periods to get through. Today though, I was able to get through the entire thing without feeling sick or needing to slow down. I think the first week was just a wake-up call, so now I’m fully ready to go. Good luck.

I am restarting my first week after the Chest and back dvd and plyometrics dvd kicked the sh*t out of me. I work out regularly and swim regularly but I never thought i was this out of shape, but this is the reason i am doing the p90x system. Anyone have any good tips for getting over the soreness? After the ab ripper x dvd i have sore muscles in my legs i never knew existed. Great program i can’t with till the soreness goes away and i can truely bring it.

I am glad to read the posts of the suffering. I just did my first day today. It’s been about 3 hours since I completed it and I still feel a bit nauseated. I thought I was is in “ok” shape since I run and do a lot of mountain hiking. I don’t do much weights and every now and then I’ll do some push-ups or sit-ups for the heck of it. I haven’t done a pull-up since I was 20 years old…I’m 44. After this workout, I feel like I am in TERRIBLE shape. I agree with Alex — watching the girl do those dive-bomber push-ups like they were easy just irritated the heck out of me and made me feel incredibly whimpy! I am so sore already — I hate to see what I’ll be like in a few days!

I am determined to complete this thing!

  12. Will D says:

WOW! I am 34 and def. in the worst shape of my life. I used to be a gym rat but just let myself go for way too long. Just finished day one and man was that brutal! In all my years of working out I never once have felt nauseated or thrown up;I had both happen today! I dropped 20 pounds before starting this. I was at 243, now at 223. Im 6’2 so I was not looking obese, but I looked terrible. Now even at 223, I cannot do more than one pull-up and the second pass through was almost unmanageable. Im determined so im takin it in stride. Already soreness is kicking in.. i will keep updating. pray for me.lol

  13. @ Will, Eric, Brandon & everyone else just getting started, the first day is going to be a complete shock. That’s the way it was for me. It can get a little frustrating not being able to keep pace with those in the videos since they make it look so easy. Keeping track of past workouts (the number of reps, the weight used) is a way I got past it. I started competing with myself and my past performance.

Depending on your starting point, if you keep at it and don’t over do it, you’ll want to go past the 90 days. For me, I was really overweight when I started so it took more than one round to get the job done. I’m still going at it, but with some modifications to the schedule and I’m cycling in new workouts.

    Be sure to stop back.
